Damani Lodges Resort in Hatta feels like a world away from Dubai but it is located a pleasant 1 hour 30 minute drive from the city. We stayed in the purpose-built Damani Lodges which are fairly small but adequate for a one-night stay. I especially adore the grown-up bohemian decor and private terrace. Waking up to mountain views was pretty special – the scenery is breathtaking and the perfect place to relax.
Wadi Hub food trucks can be found close to reception, although there is a limited selection. We chose to take our own meat in a freezer box and cook it on the BBQ. Each lodge is assigned a designated BBQ area, giving the sense of a ‘camping experience’ only you can go back to a warm, cosy bed and bathroom after dinner under the stars.
As the lodges are located quite high up and the terrain is not exactly toddler-friendly, we only had to call reception and they collected us in a buggy each time we needed to leave the lodge. I assume this is a complimentary service for all guests. Nonetheless, it’s not the place for high heels – you need trainers or hiking boots if you want to take part in the activities, and there is a lot to do. We tried archery and axe throwing, with the latter proving quite a task! The activity hub is on your doorstep with plenty to keep all ages busy, including hiking and mountain biking. Although it is probably better suited for older children, my toddler enjoyed the trip – we just took a few extra toys for him to play with on the terrace and around the BBQ area. One activity he could take part in was a trip to the dam – we hired a pedal boat for an hour and stayed close to shore but it was fun for all.
If you are into nature and adventure, Damani Lodges Resort is a great staycation from Dubai.
